Who is Boris and the Joy?
Boris & the Joy’s flexible indie-folk-electro-pop stylings shimmer with psychedelic undertones, soul-baring lyrics and intimate incantations of love and hope. With an acoustic, electric guitar and equal parts tender and surreal vocals, this project reflects the beauty and pain experienced in the journey of profound transformation.
Boris, the Ukrainian/Russian singer, composer and guitar player has toured the world as the guitarist of gypsy-punk band Gogol Bordello for a decade and fronting his own unit Hey Guy. His life’s journey and the philosophy of joy are the fibers of the emotionally colorful Boris & the Joy.
PRESS
"Boris possesses a vocal aesthetic that is at once beautifully somber but graced with a stark whimsy. Held up only by somber pretty chord shapes, the duo of guitar and voice is gracefully perfect, both quietly powerful and endearing." - American Pancake
"Pelekh’s comfort with fearlessly sharing his emotions understates the experiential plight involved in the making of 'I See It Now'." - The Big Takeover
"The lyrics speak of a failed relationship, and discovering your own self-worth. It’s powerful stuff!" - York Calling
"'I See It Now' displays a minimalist approach to reflection that takes a dap or hush folk mixed with emo vulnerability. Pelekh hones the quiet interplay of Ben Gibbard at his most intimate while cascading a new band of quiet vocal strength." - Glide Magazine
"There’s a gentleness at the heart of ‘I See It Now’ that’s impossible to resist." - Analogue Trash
